"The goal of my art practice is to connect individuals with nature, to heal themselves and our shared planet."

Rachel Ivanyi is an award-winning contemporary nature artist, illustrator and art educator, with a goal of connecting individuals with nature and our shared planet.

Graduating the University of California with a degree in Zoology, and a graduate certificate in Natural Science Illustration, she originally aimed for a career as a wildlife vet, but soon realised she preferred drawing animals, to treating them medically, and enjoys applying her scientific and artistic training to her artwork! She is a Signature Member of Artists for Conservation whose illustration clients include National Geographic, Scientific American, the Smithsonian and other nature institutions around the world.

“I would be remiss if I did not touch on my roots in scientific illustration, and how it informs all aspects of my work. I find joy in the natural world and revel in minute differences that separate one creature from the next. Truthfully, I enjoy the research into my subject’s natural history almost as much as painting them.”

Rachel has also taught a wide variety of art classes as a core instructor for the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Art Institute, in her beloved desert home of Tucson, Arizona, for over 20+ years.

We are excited for Rachel to join the Art Safari team by leading her first painting holiday with us in 2025 to Costa Rica Pura Vida! This beautifully diverse destination is full of colour, inspiration and amazing wildlife, the perfect setting to learn and paint animals from life amongst incredible landscapes.
