A pencil is so familiar, it’s a great tool to use as you learn to draw!

Join us for a day in Woodbridge to take the fear out of making your mark! Drawing is a skill that improves with practice, but it’s a bit like learning a musical instrument or a new language – there are techniques and tools to help you to become more fluent.

Come to the Art Safari Studio to spend time handling drawing tools, practicing marks and achieving satisfying drawings. Claudia is here to guide you through tips and techniques to invigorate any improving artist, or to stimulate you into action if you’re a beginner.

In this one-day workshop, we take a close look at the process of drawing.  Claudia will give fun practical exercises that show how what you think you see can be very different to what you actually see.

We’ll cover the basics of drawing practice including:

• observation and perception exercises
• the language of line and tone – creating our own visual alphabet
• choosing your tools – there’s more to the humble pencil than meets the eye
• simple ways to get proportions, foreshortening and perspective right
• techniques to help with horizons, scale and distance
• drawing things that move
• different drawing styles – there are as many ways to draw as there are people… and there’s much more to drawing than being accurate.  Prepare for some fun after all that hard work!

Your artist tutor Claudia Myatt enjoys teaching, she believes that drawing and painting is for everyone.  Claudia will guide you through observational skills, before settling into an absorbing day which will include demonstrations, sketching exercises and some one-to-one tuition time.

This workshop takes place in Art Safari’s riverside studio, where there is a wealth of material to be seen from the balcony and around the quayside.

There will be plenty of tea, coffee, water, fruit and biscuits available throughout the day.  Lunch is an hour, please bring your own packed lunch, share a pizza from around the corner or pop into one of the many cafes nearby.

To help you prepare we will send you a short list of suggested art materials to bring with you.
