Learn the art of making birds from wire to create delightful sculptures. Sketching in three dimensions with wire is a great way of stretching your mind and your observational skills!

Join us at the Art Safari Studio for this immersive two-day workshop with talented sculptor Paul Green. In this new workshop for 2025, you’ll learn to create stunning wire sculptures inspired by the wading birds of the beautiful Deben Estuary. Guided by Paul’s expertise, you’ll explore the unique process of “sketching in three dimensions” with wire, it’s a creative way to stretch your imagination and enhance your observational skills.

Paul Green, a sculptor passionate about birds and nature, will guide you through this hands-on workshop. His journey, from a nature reserve warden at Minsmere to appearing on Grayson Perry’s Art Club and exhibiting at Manchester Art Gallery, reflects his deep connection to wildlife and art. As a passionate teacher, Paul loves exploring the outdoors, observing birds with a telescope in hand. Some of you may remember Paul from Suffolk SketchFest in 2021 & 2022!

With weather permitting, we’ll draw inspiration from winter waders returning from the Arctic, jostling for space along our mudflats. Beginners and seasoned creators alike are welcome! Templates will be available to help newcomers craft their bird sculptures, ensuring an enjoyable and stress-free process. By the end of the day, you’ll have a collection of unique wire bird sculptures to take home, perfect to display or gift to a loved one.

What you’ll experience:

  • Learn wire sculpting techniques to create dynamic and lifelike bird sculptures.
  • Be inspired by the wading birds of the Deben Estuary.
  • Work in a creative and supportive environment, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Enjoy the charm of Woodbridge, with its historic Tide Mill, riverside views, and proximity to Sutton Hoo.
