Sketch, paint, and safari where the wild dogs run...

Join us on a unique creative journey into the heart of South Africa’s Greater Kruger, where wildlife, wilderness, and art come together in perfect harmony. Over eight unforgettable nights, you will sketch, paint, and immerse yourself in the rhythms of Africa, guided by acclaimed artist Yvonne Ankerman.

This is Where The Wild Dogs Run  a safari that celebrates the African wild dog, one of the continent’s most captivating and elusive creatures. With their fluid grace, striking markings, and close-knit pack bonds, wild dogs embody the wild spirit of Kruger. On our game drives, we may be fortunate enough to encounter them on the move: trotting single file along a dusty track, fanning out across the savannah in a hunt, or resting together in the shade after their morning run. Capturing these rare and dynamic animals on paper will be an unforgettable highlight of your artistic adventure.

Yvonne is based in Hoedspruit, in the heart of the Greater Kruger, where she and her husband run a much-loved bush retreat. She draws inspiration daily from the wilderness that surrounds her, and her love for plein air painting infuses her teaching with energy and authenticity.

Your adventure with her begins with four nights at African Affair Bush Retreat and Nyaleti Villa, set within the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate. Here, zebra, giraffe, and kudu wander freely among the acacia trees, and evenings are filled with birdsong and starry skies. This is Yvonne’s home ground, and she will gently introduce you to the joys of plein air painting, capturing the shifting light, wide horizons, and timeless atmosphere of the bush.

From Hoedspruit, we journey deeper into the wild for four nights at Bateleur Safari Camp, a classic tented safari experience in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve. Twice-daily game drives and quiet time at camp offer endless inspiration for sketching lions, elephants, and herds of antelope.

Throughout, Yvonne will share her passion for plein air, travel journals, and watercolour, encouraging you to experiment and capture the life and energy of Africa’s landscapes and wildlife. Her warmth, expertise, and deep connection to this wilderness make her the perfect guide for artists of all levels.
